The Graphic Covers of Dick Bruna

Dick Bruna was an illustrator, graphic designer, and children’s book author best known as the creator of the little rabbit, Miffy.  While loved around the world for children’s literature, he also created a wonderful collection of book covers in the 1950s -1970s that are truly inspiring. Below is a sample of just a few of the over 2,000 covers he designed.

Within his distinctive style of bold colors and simple shapes, it is easy to see the influence of Henri Matisse’s paper cuts and the De Stijl movement of the early 20th century. Two styles which are having a major resurgence in contemporary design. For more of Bruna’s book covers, check out the Rijks Museum’s collection.
